Bright and Modern Nursery

A play room is somewhere a child's imagination can run wild. Although her nursery is far from finished I wanted to photograph it and get it up on the blog. She's going to be needing a big girl room before we know it so before it changes again, here's her nursery!

If it were solely up to me her room would be white on white with neutral accents like tan and wood. But since it's not 'my' room my husband and I compromised and found a balance between minimalist white and fun kid's colours. We are also limited on space so each piece had to have a dual function. Each piece has been thoughtfully selected and all comes together to create a bright and modern nursery.

What inspired this nursery design?
When we were pregnant we chose not to find out the gender of the baby. So when it came to choosing some items for the nursery we knew that we wanted the pieces to be gender neutral. I won the ' Happy Camper' banner in an Instagram giveaway and it kind of started this idea of a camping/woodland theme. After that we started collecting little woodland creatures here and there and got so many wonderful items from our design focused family. My mom even hand made a teepee.

My Mum handmade this teepee for Jane. Both her and our beagle puppy love hanging out together in it.

Wipes and diaper storage - very important. Ikea is awesome for having the perfectly customizable cabinets and shelves. Chris found these awesome metal letters that are the perfect colours for her room. Now to put them up!

I knew I wanted a place to display all of her little keepsakes. Her newborn footprint, my old Holly Hobby doll, wooden mushrooms my sister made, painting my uncle did for her the day she was born. Everything is carefully selected and brings so much warmth and meaning.

I'm a total sucker for wooden toys. My little sister made the wooden rattle by hand.

Are those shower curtains?

When building her room I drew a few mock-ups and in every one I drew wide horizontal striped pinkish orange and white curtains. I didn't know where to find them or if they existed. While shopping with my mom I found the curtains! They're actually Tommy Hilfiger fabric shower curtains. I then found matching towels from the same line with teal trim that matched her crib perfectly. I'm so excited I found exactly what I was looking for.

Now that shes mobile we created somewhere for her toys to be stored that was accessible to her. It's great to have bins to shove everything in for a quick clean up. This kid loves her books so we made one of the cubbys her little library. She is very independent and likes being able to go pick a book (or three) by herself and bring it to us to read.

What do you love about the nursery?

I think its evident that I love her room. The colours are the perfect balance between minimal and playful. I love that the big staples of the room are white so if we want to change up the colour scheme all we need to do is change out the bins. I love the little details. I love that she loves it. I'm proud of how it turned out and love that its a bright modern space she can call her own.
