Whytecliff Beach

My sister came down for a little visit last month. We always do a ton of exploring when we're together. One of my favourite stops was at Whytecliff Park. 

I'm originally  from the interior of BC. Far from any ocean but since I've moved to Vancouver the ocean has stolen my heart. I'm completely drawn to the salty smell and the sound of the waves against the rocks. There are so many beautiful beaches right near our home.

Jane, Kate and I enjoyed sitting on the beach collecting sea glass while Chris and his friend were diving. Once they were finished we met up and had a delicious BBQ followed by a fun game of Kubb. (Chis is writing a post on that game and should be up soon!)

There isn't much for surfing here but we are blessed with access to tons of beaches where Chris can dive. He always finds cool old glass bottles with barnacles on them from the bottom of the ocean and brings them back for me. I like to plant herbs and succulents in them. We have quite the little collection going.

I can see Jane and I spending many days here while Chris is out diving with the nicer weather just around the corner. 

My absolute favourite thing to bring with us to the beach is our Gathre Mat.  We used to bring blankets with us to the beach but if anything was damp it would end up soaking through getting us wet and no matter how hard we tried we always ended up tracking sand home with us. This mat packs up so small that it fits in my diaper bag and is the softest leather. It is amazing. It's so easy to wipe the sand off and keeps us dry if the sand or grass is damp because nothing can get through. - Love!
