We have totally cut back on all of our mass produced plastic toys. We are 100% focused on quality made and educational toys. If she doesn't learn something while playing with it than we have put it into a box to be donated. It was tough cleaning out her room and taking away toys, especially right after Christmas and her Birthday. But that's all for another post!
This post is about beautiful handmade items that promote learning and fit into our modern simplistic and minimal lifestyle.
First off I'd like to start with Mirus Toys. They are handmade wooden toys that help with math and science. Below is a wooden stacking solar system, the lunar phases and finally numbers 1 through 100 grid.
A beautiful Tangram & a dinosaur activity kit from Flying Sprout as well as every fruit or vegitable you could imagine by Toys by Galatova.
Here's one of our favourites by From Jennifer , a wooden letter board designed for the child to be able to trace the letter. This will be available as an add on alongside our full home school curriculum in the summer along with these fantastic wooden numbers from Mish and Mash Creations.
That's all for today. Many of you have been asking about how we downsized our toy collection so I will post on that later in the week. I'm off to start dinner early because Monday night is family night and Jane requested "snimming at pool", yes 'snimming' is how she says it haha. So we need to eat well before we head to the pool.
Have a great Mondays loves,
Charlotte
We are excited to feature Big Life Journal on our blog and would like to offer you a chance to win a $50.00 gift card to Big Life Journal, a $50.00 gift card to our shop Habitat Schoolhouse as well as a few other goodies!
Because we wanted to put the finishing touches on the curriculum and it took a little longer than anticipated, we weren't able to get the physical copies ready in time for you to start your school year in September. We know many of you have been anxiously waiting for the physical copy but want to start the school year right now in September. SO, we want to give you two months of lessons for free so that you can get started with our lessons right away and begin your new school year. This way you can work through the lessons while your physical copy is being printed and shipped then continue on once your physical copy arrives.
As I began writing this blog post we took a family trip to Seattle. Our last trip as the three of us before baby number two arrives in a few short months. I brought along the book Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne, which has quickly become a new favourite. It addresses slowing your life down and simplifying your parenting. Which ended up being the perfect lesson I needed to learn on this trip.
September 2nd marks five full months for Habitat Schoolhouse. This month we hit a ton of goals that I am so excited to share with you!
One of the most important things I can teach my children is to be kind to others. Kindness above all else is what I believe will make an impact in this world. Wouldn't it be great if the foundation we helped build created caring, empathetic, and kind human beings? Because that's what the world truly needs. How do we help our children grow up to be the kind generation of the future?
Today, August 2nd marks four full months for Habitat Schoolhouse. This month has been so great for learning a lot about how business works and networking with a few fantastic other businesses in a similar homeschooling niche. I love looking back and comparing last month to this month. As last month we hit 600 sales in total since the start of May and now we're closing in on 1 thousand sales!
Well we officially hit three months on July 2nd and I am completely blown away by the work that was done and the progress this little business has had. Last month we hit 200 sales and this month were over 600 sales! Wahoo! I figured that sales would slow right down when summer hit but they've just increased exponentially.
Books are a great way to encourage our children to enjoy learning and spark their imagination. There’s no better way to get them into a book than to choose one that’s focused on something they love.
In this post I'm sharing over 250 books that are included in our home school curriculum as well as a few extra suggestions we love.
We wanted to do a more modern twist on the ocean theme. Rather than having big plastic blow up sea creatures, sand, palm trees and hula skirts we kept it very modern and clean.
Starting preschool can seem like such a big task but I'm here to reassure you it is much simpler than you think and is so rewarding! Here are a few steps to get you started.
