I't’s So Nice To Meet You

Family Focused Curriculum

Welcome to Habitat Schoolhouse! Every homeschooling journey begins with a brave decision: to step away from the conventional and follow your heart toward what’s best for your family. That single leap of faith is the foundation of our story, too.

In 2023 we met with a simple truth: "When you know, you know." My husband, Vince, and I knew instantly that we were meant for each other. We got engaged just five months after we met and married two months later! We thank God every day for bringing us together.

We're a family that loves to get our hands dirty—whether it's gardening with our chickens, hiking mountains, or exploring the ocean. We are truly blessed with our children, our life together, and this company that we get to pour our passion and creativity into.

How Habitat Began

Looking at this photo from 2018 of our very first print run (with a very pregnant me!) brings back so many memories. Habitat Schoolhouse was born a month before our son, Henry! It didn’t start from a grand business plan; it started quietly at my kitchen table with intentional lessons I created for our then two-year-old daughter.

With a background in education I simply wanted to create lessons for her that were rooted in nature and kindness. I started sharing them with other moms, and this little project of love began to grow into something I never imagined.

It’s amazing to see how that initial goal of creating wholsome resources is still the heart of everything we do as a family. We’re so proud to continue creating materials that help parents and spark a genuine love of learning in children.

The Future of Habitat Schoolhouse

Today, our life doesn’t look "normal"—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We get to work together from a little office in our garden, right next to the chicken coop. It’s from here that we get to live our dream: creating and sharing heartfelt homeschool resources with families like yours all over the world.

Over the past seven years, our library of curriculum and unit studies has grown, and we know how overwhelming it can be to search for the right resources. That’s why we’re excitedly working towards bringing everything together in one place with the Habitat Schoolhouse Subscription. Our goal is to give you a peaceful place you can always count on, making your homeschool planning simpler and joyful.

Thank you for being on this journey with us. Every family that joins our community reminds us why we started in the first place.

Sincerely,
The Diorio Family

Charlotte

Hello! I’m Charlotte. My story starts in a small town in Northern BC, where I was a homeschool kid with the mountains as my backyard.

At 18, with big dreams, I packed up my truck and moved to the big city (Vancoucer) to study education. After four years of study to become an elemenrary teacher, my heart was pulled in a new direction when my daughter was born. Choosing to leave my university path to become a full-time stay-at-home mom was one of the best and most 'controversial' decisions of my life. The moment I held her, I knew my true calling was at home. I decided to pour everything I had learned about education into my own children, and from that love, Habitat Schoolhouse was born.

I am so blessed that my work and my life are woven together. I get to garden, care for our animals, read books, and teach my kids, all while sharing my passion by creating resources for families like yours.

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is hard to define, the title CEO doesn’t do it justice. I wear many hats but the majority of my time (and heart) is in writing and creating curriculum and homeschooling resources.

Vince

Hi, I’m Vince. Around here, I’m also known as Dad and Stepdad (or “step daaaad,” accompanied by a classic eye-roll and smile from my stepdaughter).

My journey here is a story of God's perfect timing. I moved from Ontario to Vancouver for a corporate job, a path I’m now so grateful for because it led me to meeting my wife. While I still work as a Fleet Manager, my heart is here at home, and I feel a strong calling to leave the corporate world behind to join Habitat’s mission full-time. Every hour I spend working on Habitat Schoolhouse is a step toward that goal.

I believe the most important work we can do is the time we spend raising our children. God has blessed me immensely, and my goal is to build a life that honors Him by putting my family first and supporting other families so they can do the same.

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is Operations Manager, which means I take care of our customers and manage the daily tasks. It is a privilege to run the business side of things so that Charlotte can focus on what she does best: creating beautiful, wholesome resources for your family.

Henry

Hello, I’m Henry. I’m six-and-a-half! My family has lots of nicknames for me, like Scooby Doo, Bo Bo Kitty and Little H, but my favorite is when my mom calls me Baby Cakes (I call her Mummy Hunny).

I’ve been on the move my whole life. My mom says I skipped the walking stage and went straight from crawling to running—and I haven’t stopped since! I love being fast and can keep up with the big kids. They even have trouble catching me during a game of tag.

I’m in grade 2 and love science! I have an incredible memory for all plant and animal names and facts. While I’m usually a blur of motion, I have a secret power: focus. When you give me a puzzle, book, paint, or lego, then I can sit for hours at a time focused on what I am creating.

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is product tester. While my brother and sister test the lessons, I make sure all the resources are strong enough for the most enthusiastic hands-on learners, just like me.

Jane

Ciao! I’m Jane and Mum made Habitat Schoolhouse just for me! My story starts with a bit of science...

As a baby up until I turned two, I was part of a big nation wide university study on how a loving home helps children learn. But my curiosity was so big, it was literally off their charts! I was the only one to complete and surpass all their learning outcomes. To keep up with my endless desire to learn everything about the world around me, my mom began creating her own lessons just for me - Habitat Schoolhouse!

I’m in grade 4 and love math and language. I love learning different lanugages and I’m an avid reader—my favorite book so far is The Hobbit ! I love fishing and snuggling my pets (5 chickens, 1 french bulldog, and Squidgee - my guinea pig). If you don’t find me reading you can find me on the soccer field. I love being part of a team and was so excited to be named captain this year.

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is product tester, encourager, and Chief Sassafras.

Vincent the 4th

Hi, I'm Vinny. My full name is Vincent, and it’s a special one in my family—I’m the fourth Vincent in a row, named after my dad, my grandpa, and my great-grandpa.

For the first eight years of my life, I was an only child, but I always dreamed of having siblings. That dream came true when my dad met my stepmom, and I got to become a big brother! It's one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. Some of my favorite moments are staying up late (after lights out), chatting and laughing with my little brother, Henry.

I’m in the fifth grade, and I love digging into big subjects like history and theology. This year, I received my very own Bible and am enjoying working my way through Exodus (though I think the book of Revelation is still my favorite). I like playing flag football, doing cadets, and swimming. In my quiet time, I’m always practicing new card tricks to show my family—I want to learn every single one!

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is being a product tester and providing the comedic relief.

Dani

Hi! I’m Dani. What started with a love of the Habitat Schoolhouse preschool curriculum for my kids, turned into the best job! Interacting with the customers, and seeing educational resources I’ve helped create being used in homes all over the world brings me so much joy!

I live in Michigan with my husband and three kids. Our oldest son is seventeen, our middle son is ten, and our daughter is eight. We spend our time outside on our two wooded acres or playing intense games in our living room (we are all a bit competitive!). We love Jesus, quality time and adventure.

My role at Habitat Schoolhouse is Content Creator. I started by taking photographs of the curriculum I was using, moved to writing for the Kindred Magazine, and then finally settled into the role I do now. I make subsription content (unit studies and printables) and help manage social media for Habitat Schoolhouse.

Our Vision

To be a wholesome provider of kindness and nature-inspired educational resources that nurture family connections and deepen parent-child bonds in homeschooling. We strive to cultivate a world where learning together creates lasting memories and enriches familial relationships through the wonders of the natural environment.

To empower homeschooling families by providing high-quality, nature-based educational resources & curriculum that nurture curiosity and inspire lifelong learning. As a family-run business, we are dedicated to supporting and connecting with our community, ensuring that each resource promotes discovery, creativity, and a love for the natural world.

Our Values

When it comes to creating and selling our homeschooling curriculum, we have chosen to keep it secular. This decision was intentional, driven by our belief in the importance of respecting the diverse beliefs and values held by families. We understand that education is a foundational aspect of a child's development, and we aim to provide a curriculum that is inclusive and adaptable, allowing parents the freedom to incorporate their personal beliefs and impart their faith as they see fit.

By doing so, we hope to empower each family to tailor their educational journey to reflect their own values. It is crucial for us to support educational diversity and independence, and to recognize that every family should have the opportunity to foster an environment that aligns with their ideals.

Our family practices Christianity, and it forms a significant part of our lives. While our core curriculum remains secular, we are also aware of the needs of Christian families who might wish to incorporate faith-based elements into their schooling. To support this, we provide additional Christian resources and materials as optional extras for those who choose to use them. These supplementary resources are crafted to harmonize with our primary curriculum while allowing Christian families to intertwine faith-based teachings with their children's secular education.

Our aim is to offer a broad spectrum of materials that respect each family's unique preferences and foster an environment where learning and personal beliefs can coexist gracefully. When I first started Habitat Schoolhouse my goal was to create wholesome lessons that included nature, kindness, and genuinely sparked interest in learning. We are proud to continue with this mission as a family and continually seek expert advice on best education practices and do our best to help other parents educate their children.

Our Mission

Habitat Schoolhouse works with families across the world to provide children with wholesome education at home through hands-on learning that encourages play and exploration.
