Great education
starts with play.
Habitat Schoolhouse's preschool program is a play-based curriculum for young children and their parents. Using hands-on activities, nature exploration, and a lot of creativity, our guides make early learning a joyful experience. We use techniques such as nature walks to teach science, singing to learn about the seasons, sensory play to understand math and literacy, and storytelling to build community and kindness. The experiences they gain establish deep roots of curiosity and a love for discovery, which will anchor all of their future learning in the years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Preschool Curriculum
What age should I start?
The general age for children in preschool is between 18-months and 5-years-old. There is no correct age to start or wrong age to finish. The age of your child does not delegate if a child can begin or complete this curriculum. Instead, we recommend that children go through the preschool curriculum to encourage a love of learning, exploration, and discovery. Through the Preschool Curriculum they will learn the basics such as numbers 1-10, letters, basic shapes, colours, and more. Once they have a basic understanding of these concepts or are nearing the ages 5-7, we suggest they move onto Kindergarten.
How much time will children need to complete this course?
The time needed to complete the Preschool Curriculum is a short academic year (26 weeks). If you follow the 26-week plan included, you can expect around 10-15 minutes of lesson time per instructional day (or more if they really love a lesson and want to keep doing it). This curriculum is designed for a gentle introduction to structured learning and includes 4 instuctional days per calendar week.
The lessons are broken up into small, daily mini-lessons suitable for young children. The Daily Instruction Manual included in the curriculum has a comprehensive breakdown of the lessons and scheduling, including variations on the schedule so that you can best tailor it to the needs of your family.
Does the Curriculum include a daily/weekly curriculum planner?
Yes, the Preschool Curiculum includes a 26-week lesson planner and curriculum guide. This guide is for you, their parent/teacher to follow. These Daily Instruction Manuals contain everything you need to teach each grade/subject. The Manual includes lesson plans, activities, and even portions to read aloud to your child in order to help you teach the lesson.
Each of the grades we offer include daily instructions. The Kindergarten - Grade 2 suggested lesson planners and curriculum guides cover a 36-week academic year.
Is help available for additional Curriculum questions?
