Bison Shop
Blakely is the founder and curator of Bison Shop. For her, opening an online shop was a no-brainer. She wanted a place where she could share her love of vintage and support of handmade goods as well as found objects that had a story to tell. Her purpose is for others to want and to live with less. She sources products that are sustainable and last.
To me, those are the ones you’ll keep around longer than any item from the mall.
She started out by opening a small shop on Instagram where she would post items she found, mostly clothing, and they would be claimed in the comments. When this became successful she created her online shop. This way she could source items from other places and artisans as well as the items she would find locally. She dove right into her online shop head first and was surprised by it success. She is very thankful for the fun opportunities that have come out of running Bison Shop.
A little bit about Blakely:
This introverted student, at Oklahoma State University is studying full time in pursuit of a degree in interior design. For her, time management is one of the biggest obstacles. Blakely also loves a good Led Zeppelin vinyl and tries to keep her house plants alive. She begins her day like many of us do, with a cup of coffee and a walk with her hound dog, Blitzen. She also has a mischievous kitten named Theodore. After her morning routine she either has classes or works at a little shop down the road. She then does errands, trips to the post office, sources, photographs new pieces for Bison Shop, and answers e-mails. By the time that’s all done it's time to hit the hay.
Her inspiration comes from others aspiring to "BE". This hit home with me, to live intentionally. More and more this lifestyle is spreading across our nation. To live with purpose. I love that this is something she is striving for and supporting as well.
Blakely is surrounded by support, from far and wide. Her family and friends encourage her throughout this journey as well as in all aspects of her life. She also receives tremendous support from the artisans who's items, posted in her shop and social media, helps spark her desire to be bigger and better.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don’t reach out to another individual or save an idea they’ve given me!
Blakely has always wanted to own her own shop. Ever since a little girl she would have pretend customers. she shared with me a cute little bit of herself explaining that as a girl she would have family, from her dad, mom, step dad, or step mom pretend to be a "customer" for her.
Long term she hopes Bison Shop becomes a brick and mortar. She is driven to source amazing pieces and to share them.
I have high hopes that this may turn into my big-gal job someday!
She captures the "Whole Life" philosophy that Thistle and Oak is striving to achieve. It is so encouraging to be able to connect with like minded individuals and to share their stories.
