October Newsletter
I don’t know about you but this is my favorite season.
Here in the Midwest, October brings so many wonderful things; sweaters, boots, bonfires, leaves changing, football season, apple orchards, and cider mills. Something about this season's beauty and the start of a new school year excites me! Autumn always feels like a fresh start. A chance to change my mind, or start holding myself and my kids accountable for the choices we will make, or the rhythms we will form in the upcoming school year. I love the coziness this season’s cooler temperatures bring and ever since my kids were much younger you’ll find us snuggled on the couch reading most fall mornings. The birds still chirping slightly through the open windows, and the sound of squirrels scattering around gathering their winter meals is the perfect backdrop for a snuggle and a good book. If you are anything like I am and enjoy a good cuddle from your kiddos while soaking up all the Autumn season has to offer then I think you’ll enjoy the fall booklists we’ve included in both the Harvest and Hello Autumn Workbooks that are included in your membership this month! My kids got their very own library cards this year, and we are already loading up on all the fall reads.
Happy fall and fresh starts friends! We are so glad you are a part of the Habitat Schoolhouse Community.

From our Founder:
Thank you Dani for sharing beautiful autumn mornings with your children! Hearing about your snuggly couch reading reminds me of what I just learned about my local library that has drastically increased our whole family's interest and enjoyment in reading. With three kids who love books and my avid reading, we definitely make good use of our local library. One of the fun facts that I just learned is that you can borrow up to 70 books at once! I know that seems like a ton of books but my personal preference is to allow my children to grab any (and all) books that interest them while we stop at the library rather than putting a number limit on how many they can take out. I also just learned that I can log into my library account online which gives me the list of all the books we have checked out, their due dates, and I can even renew the books we want to keep a little longer right from my phone. Super helpful tool that I thought I would share with you this month in case you are like me and had no idea 😉. If you haven’t yet, be sure to find out what your library has to offer you. You may be just as pleasantly surprised as I was.
It gets really stormy and cold here in Vancouver Canada in the fall. Last week the wind storms were so crazy the roads were closed and there were constant power outages due to falling trees. Something we are used to here year after year. Just last week our power was out for three days straight! It got a little chilly in the house without power so we lit a fire in the wood burning stove in the corner of our living room and my husband built a tent in the living room too! He filled it with two mattresses from the boy’s room and tons of blankets and pillows. The kids thought it was the best day ever. Luckily we had a fresh stack of library books so my two sons and I piled into the tent with our books to read, my daughter sat with her book just outside the tent with her feet resting inside on the mattress, so she could have her space but still feel involved, and my husband lay on the couch next to the tent with his book. I think it was the longest all 5 of us spent together without talking or fidgeting. The only thing you could hear were the sound of pages being flipped and the crackle of the fire. It truly was the perfect way to bring in the autumn season.
Thank you for being here and for loving your children. You are an amazing mother.
