Honey Bee vs Bumble Bee: Explore the Wonderful World of Bees

Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity for homeschooling parents and families to teach their children about love and appreciation. This special day can be a rich educational experience, blending creativity, kindness, and learning. Here’s how you can make this lesson both fun and memorable.

Understanding the Importance of Mother’s Day

Start by explaining the history and significance of Mother’s Day. Use our educational resources to show how this day is celebrated around the world. Through these stories, children can learn to appreciate the diverse ways people honor their mothers.

Creative Activities to Show Love

Want something for your children to do this Mother’s Day? Encourage your children to express their love through creative activities:

1. Handmade Cards:
Guide them to craft personalized cards. Incorporate art lessons as they explore different techniques, like watercolors or collage.

2. Poetry and Stories:
Help them write a poem or a short story about their mom, enhancing their writing skills and emotional expression.

3. Home-Made Breakfast:
Teach simple cooking skills by preparing a special Mother’s Day breakfast together.

4. Chore Coupons: Create a set of colorful “chore coupons” that children can make and offer to alleviate mom’s daily tasks.

5. Memory Journal:
Compile a journal of drawings, photographs, and written memories to reflect on cherished family moments.

This One’s for YOU Mama

I highly reccomend you treat YOURSELF this Mother’s Day and ask a friend or your husband to snap some photos of you with your little ones. You won’t regret it. Above is a lovely photoshoot I was able to do with my little ones a few years back with a friend. I love looking back on these and actually being in some of the photos instead of always behind the camera.

  • Visit a local farm, flower field, or park (for free)

  • Bring a friend or your husband to be the photographer (for free)

  • Snap some photos with your phone! (also free!)

Animal Kingdom: Lessons on Motherhood from Nature

Incorporating cute animal facts will make this lesson both educational and entertaining. This workbook includes 8 different species and how each animal mom has unique ways of caring for their young.

Elephants: Elephant moms create strong bonds with their calves, guiding them through the herd with their trunks for protection and teaching them about survival.

Koalas: Koala mothers carry their joeys in a pouch for about six months before transitioning to back rides as they learn to climb and forage.

Penguins: In some species, penguin mothers contribute significantly by trekking miles to find food for their chicks.

Finish the homeschooling session with a discussion about the qualities of love, patience, and care that mothers universally provide. Engage your children in reflection, encouraging them to think about ways to support and appreciate their mom year-round, not just on Mother’s Day.
